Mid-Year Financial Reset Checklist for Business Owners
Updated: Aug 26

As summer begins to wind down, now is a great time to check in on your bookkeeping before the busy fall season arrives.
It's much easier to catch small issues now than to spend hours untangling them later. Taking a little time to review your books can help you head into the rest of the year feeling organized, confident, and prepared.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
Are your books up to date? If you're several weeks - or even months (or years!) - behind, don't worry. It happens more often than you think. The important thing is getting caught up now before the year gets away from you.
Have you reconciled your bank accounts recently? Your bank balances should match what's in your bookkeeping software. If they don't, it's worth taking a closer look before small issues become bigger ones.
Do you still have uncategorized transactions? Categorizing transactions accurately keeps your financial reports reliable and makes tax season much less stressful.
Do your financial reports make sense? Take a look at your Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet. They should help you understand how your business is performing and give you confidence when making decisions.
Do you have your receipts and supporting documents? Keeping everything organized throughout the year saves time, reduces stress, and helps support your deductions if you ever need them.
Do you know how your business is really doing? Your bank balance only tells part of the story. Accurate financial reports give you the complete picture and help you make informed decisions with confidence.
If you found yourself answering “not really” to any of these questions, don’t be discouraged. You don’t have to fix everything at once. A few small steps now can make a big difference in how organized and confident you feel about your finances for the rest of the year.
